ABOUT AMBERINA
It shades from red at the top to amber
at the base. Small quantity's of gold were
added to the batch. Cooling and re-heating
the top created the shadings. Pieces were
blown into patterns having swirls, ribs,
diamond quilts and thumb-prints.
The patent for Amberina was given to Joseph
Locke in 1883. He worked for Libbey and it was
called Ruby Amber glass. Libbey Amberina was
made around the 1900's. They are rich in color,
and only small quantity s were made. They
tried to revive Amberina in the
1920's but it was short lived.
New England Glass Works
also manufactured this single layered
glass in 1883.
Mount Washington produced Rose Amber
in 1886.
